NTLA student leaders were recognized for the positive impact they made in the community at NTLA’s annual “Be the Change” reception Tuesday, May 23rd. The leaders’ efforts benefited 25 Dallas/Fort Worth area non-profit organizations!
At NTLA, students complete a service-learning project each quarter. For the fourth quarter, the PreK students and their families volunteered their time to pick up trash on North Texas Leadership Academy’s Adopt-a-Street in Keller while the older leaders, Kindergerten-8th grade, worked individually or in small groups to assist a Dallas/Fort Worth-area non-profit organization of their choosing. They met with a representative of the organization to learn what they needed then formed a plan to help fulfill that need. The organizations they chose to serve included 6 Stones, Beautiful Feet, Broadway Baptist Church: Agape Dinner, Christ Haven for Children, Classy Cats, Don’t Forget to Feed Me, Fox Food Box, Humane Society of North Texas, Hurst Animal Shelter, Legend Assisted Living & Memory Care, March of Dimes, Metroport Meals on Wheels, Mission Arlington, Presbyterian Night Shelter, Refugee Services of DFW International, Reins for Hope, Riding Unlimited, Roanoke Food Pantry, St. Andrew Food Bank, Snowball Express, Sole Hope, Sunshine Spaces, Tango Tab, and Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County.
In addition to performing “We Can Change the World”, the leaders each received a certificate recognizing the work they completed for their organization and shared their projects with friends and family at displays they created about their service work. Visit our Service-Learning page to see photos and descriptions of the leaders’ projects.
Thank you, Bear Valley Community Church in Colleyville, for donating your facility and staff to host this event. And thank you, parents, for supporting your students work with these organizations! #NTXLA #ServiceLearning
