For their second quarter service project, North Texas Leadership Academy’s first-fourth grade leaders’ collected money to buy gifts and food for the Lena Pope Adopt-a-Family program.
To earn money, leaders compiled a list of chores to complete around their homes. Each leader had a goal of collecting $25.00 to contribute to our adopted family. Our leaders surpassed their goal and raised $410.00! We contacted the Lena Pope to see if we could adopt another family and volunteer holiday coordinator, Dianne Rubenkoenig said “Yes, I am so proud of them. Thank you so much for your generosity!” The leaders were able to help provide a great holiday for two families!
On Friday, December 14th, leaders went to Walmart to shop for their families. Some of the requested items were sports items such as a football, basketball, and soccer ball. One family requested a Little Tyke bike for their little one. Both families also received books. Leaders were so excited to be able to shop for the families! They also provided each family with a basket full of pantry items!
Lillian, NTLA 4th grader, said “I like Lena Pope because they help families in need and they help match us to their families so that we can provide them a happy holiday.” Maggie, NTLA 1st grader, stated, “Shopping for our families made me happy and feel good.”
Leaders learned how to collect money through donating service in the home and worked together to give back to their community. The leaders’ third quarter service-learning project, collecting canned goods for a food pantry, will take place in January.
